STRAIGHT EDGE. When you say that word people always respond in such confusion and many people have no idea what it even means, born in the hardcore scene “straight edge” (sometimes abbreviated sXe or signified XXX or X) is a subculture of hardcore punk whose adherents refrain from using alcohol, tobacco and other recreational drugs, in reaction to the excesses of punk subculture. For some, this extends to  following a vegetarian or vegan diet, and/or not using caffeine or prescription drugs. The term straight edge was adopted from the 1981 song “Straight Edge” by the hardcore punk band Minor Threat.

I am a person just like you. But I’ve got better things to do.-Minor Threat

For me personally i don’t really come from the hardcore or punk scene but i completely associate myself with what SXE stands for. I also believe i really found myself and my sobriety in yoga. In understanding myself and my body, in the fact that i wanted to engage and commit to a fully healthy, uplifting, sober life style on all levels. Cutting alcohol out of my life especially completely transformed me and made me a better person. I love this lifestyle. I strongly believe that alcoholism and drug use are the demons controlling and destroying our world and we need to fight them, with love, compassion and education. Like Ian (singer Minor Threat) said in 1981: we just got better things to do…. Sober is the new black people.  :)

This book a great resource:
