I am a daughter.
I am an activist.
I am a girlfriend.
I am a (dog)mother.
I am a teacher.
BUT I am always a feminist first. It is at my very core being of existence. It is always where everything else comes from. All I do, create, muster up and bring about. Its the foundation of myself, my being, of who I am, who I was meant to be and what I should be doing in this world. Seeing this incredible documentary: SEEING ALLREAD (based on the life of Gloria Allred) brought me back to the surface of my true feminist existence. It made me think about so many things, it made me realise so many things. It made me go back to where it all started for me. So let me explain a little bit about feminism and what it means.
The dictionary tells us this:
FEMINISM: the advocacy of women’s rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes.
I strongly believe in lineage. In the power of lineage, I see that in my profession as a Jivamukti Yoga Teacher, in my work as an activist, a vegan chef, but mostly in my soul feminist being. Let us not forget about those who have come before us. Who created a pathway for all of us now, who fought bigger fights then we can ever imagine in a world even darker then the one we live in today. There is still way too much injustice when it comes to women rights today, but it already is so much better then 50 years ago. I bow down to all those who have come before us and who made such a significance difference in this world.
Many in my past and many that came before me, I just keep walking my path and blessed to share my story- Macklemore & Ryan Lewis- VIPASSANA
Justice is something so extremely important to me, its the reason why I am an animal rights activist and passionate vegan, animal rights they mean as much to me as women rights, human rights. We should always take a stand for this. I am always so inspired by stories of people who fight for justice, most of the time for someone else. This is certainly the case with Gloria Allred, who as an attorney has been taken some serious stands in her life defending those who deserved a good fight. The described this is her documentary as going to war everyday. It baffles me that it is still like that today. Women still need to proof themselves more, they still need to fight harder, work more for less money. EQUAL….. hmmmm not really.
There is hope though. We can all make a difference. I believe in the beauty and power of the sacred feminine.
OM SHRI DURGAYAI NAMAH– Divine Feminine Consciousness
It is the drive of my everyday existence, it gets me up in the morning, strong, active, full of feminine power! I run a vegan cafe with a (female) business partner and nearly all of our staff are women. Strong, beautiful, hard working women. Not to say that you have to be a woman to be a feminist. My boyfriend is a true feminist. I love that about him. His feminine energy & understanding of equal rights. Two very important teachers in my life are my coach: BARBARA BERGER and teacher & co-founder of Jivamukti Yoga SHARON GANNON. They both are the embodiment of true feminist power. Such powerful souls, who both in their own way created such a massive path for themselves & everyone who wanted to follow them. They both are my daily inspiration to bring light and love into this world. To be a bigger better person everyday and to take a proud, powerful stand as a female driving force.
I have an altar at home which reminds me everyday to be a driving force for myself and all other women on this planet (and I am not just talking human women, animal women too) pictured in this altar is Sharon Gannon, my grandmother, Kali, Durga, art work by Ellen Stapleton and Nixi Killick (two incredible female artists I love and support)
I am a feminist because I dare to stand out. I am a feminist because I stand (and fight) for equal rights for all beings on this planet. I am a feminist because women make me proud. I am a feminist because I dare to be who I am. I am a feminist and I am PROUD of who I am, how far I’ve come and how much further I still will go. To all my sisters out there I say this. BE PROUD OF WHO YOU ARE! Take a stand not just for yourself but for all women, this is one fight. One world. We are all united. I salute all of you who are so brave, beautiful, outspoken, different, amazing, vibrant, strong, fragile, REAL!
