ABOUT KARO TAK
Vegan Cook, Jivamukti Yoga Teacher & Spiritual Activist
To me everything in life is about creation, action & connection, before anything I am always an activist, a creator, a connector first, bringing people together, connecting the dots, connecting different worlds with each other, with that concept I have worked in many different set ups all over the world, creating work as an actor & performing artist, creating food as a vegan cook, creating an active platform as an activist and very recently as a Jivamukti Yoga teacher. I strive to create debate, educate and facilitate within everything I do and in that I always recognize creative risk & a sense of adventure as the heart of my practice, no matter what. KARO
KARO THE VEGAN COOK
Karo started her vegan cooking career on board of the the M/Y Bob Barker (Sea Shepherd Conservation Society vessel) in 2012 inspired by that experience she wrote a vegan cookbook which she self published in September 2012 but after a recent huge re-edit her book: KARO’S NUTRITIOUS & DELICIOUS CRUELTY-FREE DISHES will now be published by a Dutch publisher and will be for sale all over the world, which is truly exciting. She started her own vegan company: THE VEGANATOR at the beginning of 2013 with which she runs vegan events, vegan educational programs and vegan cooking workshops all over Sydney, Karo has always had a HUGE passion & love for food & cooking, especially the cruelty-free kind. She also studied vegan nutrition & does a lot of vegan catering for several events/projects. See FOOD & YOGA for more info.
So here is the thing, I only have one mission in life: to always encourage and inspire others. Creatively encouraging others to do the RIGHT THING, to go VEGAN, educate them about vegan nutrition, vegan substitutes, sharing my gained vegan knowledge, challenge, convert and confront people (passionately never aggressively) about their choices and beliefs on food, diet and ethics is something I do on a daily basis, world wide I have spread the vegan virus now with many successful results. I LOVE being vegan and I am such a happy vegan, spreading the vegan love all over the world through actions not reactions, through love not anger, through dedication and devotion.KARO
KARO THE JIVAMUKTI YOGA TEACHER
Like many journeys in Karo’s life, her Jivamukti Journey was also a very “direct action” one. Through being a Sea Shepherd she received a free pass to Jivamukti Yoga Sydney in August 2012, her first class was on the 2nd of August, she decided to be a teacher after her second class, Sharon Gannon (co-founder of Jivamukti Yoga) confirmed her scholarship on the 31st of August 2012 and Karo graduated as a Certified Jivamukti Yoga Teacher on the 16th of May 2013. She has returned to Sydney she teaches her own Sunday afternoon 4 pm JIVAMUKTI OPEN CLASS at the YOGA FACTORY, she also runs her own workshops & retreats combining veganism, spiritual activism and Jivamukti Yoga, she is planning to stay in Sydney for the year and will travel to Europe to teach next year July & after that will do her 12 week apprentice-ship with her amazing mentor Tina Pashumati James in Whistler (Canada) August.
I already felt that I arrived at the next chapter of my life & mission to make the world a better place after my first Jivamukti Yoga class. I AM Jivamukti, because Jivamukti offers a very strong element of spiritual, non-violence (ahimsa) & animal rights teachings alongside the asana practice. I could have gone to Bali and sign up for any yoga teacher course but I have no interest in that. Jivamukti made me feel re-born, liberated and ready for the next step in my DIRECT ACTION activism life, it truly was my KARMA, a lot of people use the word karma in relation to a certain energy or event happening in their lives, but karma means ACTION and I am all about that. My devotion to the Jivamukti Method is completely and utterly tapasic (especially after sacredly and personally receiving the teachings from Sharonji, Davidji and Lady Ruth) with a daily asana practice & lots of discipline. Mostly for me the core & foundation of teaching the Jivamukti Method really is: the one thing we have, the one thing we can always be sure of is the affect we can have on others. KARO
KARO THE SPIRITUAL ACTIVIST
The word: ACTIVISM comes across to some people as something hard, something aggressive, intense, people seem to connect the word with aggressive actions, but activism comes from the word: ACTIVE, actively making a change, through ACTIONS not REACTIONS we can make some amazing changes in our own life and the lives of others. Through her work as a Sea Shepherd and life-long work as an animal rights activist (which started at the age of 5) Karo is the living example of a true “Spiritual Activist” totally committed to making the world a better place for all beings, she lives her yoga, she has one main mission and vision in life: to always encourage & inspire others. Karo was already doing this for years as a performing artist, traveling the world to train, teach and perform. She has created projects and events all over the world, specialized in physical theatre & site specific performance. In 2011 she self funded a tour to Europe & Hong Kong to perform, teach & facilitate a specialized devising theatre master-class, teaching participants how to create their own work. In 2012 she extended that journey by setting up several projects & performances in Hobart like PREPARE TO PEEK for the Salamanca Arts Centre while also focusing on her devotion to the ocean, her work on the M/Y Bob Barker (Sea Shepherd Conservation Society vessel) where she worked as a vegan cook & deckhand.
I am a trained actor & performer, for years and years of my life I devoted myself completely to just that; internationally and rather successfully, until one day I started questioning the purpose of performing, I started re-thinking and re-assessing my life as a performer and my life overall. My activism, my mission to make the world a better place (a mission I started when I was 5 years old) just took over, I got to a point in my life where I radically started to re-think art, performing art in my case and that’s where an amazing journey started, I turned vegan, I started working for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, I wrote a vegan cook-book and started bringing vegan to the people, life enabled me to truly devote myself to the well being and happiness of all beings on this planet. KARO
So with her performing background and combining the strong forces of veganism, spiritual & animal rights activism and Jivamukti Yoga Karo has a lot to offer to the world, she strives to be a passionate and creative disciple who wants to travel the world to bring her love and passion for life to all beings on this planet, her plan is to travel to Europe next year to teach & practice and facilitate specialized vegan food & yoga workshops and she will end up in Canada for 3 months in August 2014 to train & practice with her incredible mentor: Tina Pashumati James.
Karo lives in Sydney with her gorgeous Jack Russell: Sparky, she is a passionate cyclist & devoted yogi & works part-time for Alfalfa House, a food coop in Newtown.
